DIREKTION

DIREKTION is a European project that brings together researchers, responders, policymakers, and industry to rethink how we deal with disasters.
Its ambition is simple yet urgent: to make Europe safer, more resilient, and better prepared for tomorrow’s crises.
At the heart of the project is the creation of a shared knowledge base on disaster risks. By connecting science, practice, and policy, DIREKTION ensures that research does not stay on paper but is turned into concrete tools and standards.
The project sets up two new communities: the European Disaster Risk Knowledge Group, a high-level forum guiding strategy and priorities, and the Disaster Risk Stakeholder Hub, a collaborative space where projects and initiatives can learn from each other.
DIREKTION also develops the Disaster Risk Management Standardisation Framework, a practical reference to harmonise methods, close critical gaps, and spread innovation across Europe.
Through workshops, policy briefs, and recognition awards, the project creates bridges between people and organisations that do not always work together. It gives responders and decision-makers access to solutions tested in the field, while offering researchers a direct channel to impact policy.
In doing so, DIREKTION addresses today’s most pressing risks – from climate-driven hazards to technological accidents and cascading events that cross borders. It builds on European mechanisms like the Union Civil Protection Mechanism while contributing to global agendas such as the Sendai Framework.
More than a project, DIREKTION is a movement to turn knowledge into action. Its legacy will be a stronger, more connected European community, able to anticipate, prevent, and respond to disasters with greater confidence.
